The English Language Test for Sri Lanka Principals’ Service (SLPS) Officers is conducted annually by the Department of Examinations for officers who have not obtained at least a Credit (C) pass in English at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination. Such officers are required to achieve proficiency in English within three years of their recruitment, either by passing the G.C.E. O/L English examination with a C grade or by passing this English Language Test. The test assesses candidates’ proficiency in grammar, including tenses and numbers, sentence structures (simple, compound, and complex), relative clauses, reported speech, adjectives and adverbs, determiners, and prepositions. It also evaluates writing skills in summary writing, report writing, and essay writing to ensure competence in modern written English.
